Updated March 16, 2022

DUNCAN, Okla. — Last week, the U.S. Senate voted 68-31 to pass the fiscal year 2022 omnibus appropriations bill, following its passage in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday. The massive, long-awaited legislation was signed into law by President Biden on March 15th.

The National Rural Water Association (NRWA) applauds the passage of the FY2022 omnibus appropriations bill, which includes a host of priority programs benefitting small and rural communities across the country including the USDA Circuit Rider Program, Grassroots Source Water Protection Initiative, EPA Safe Drinking Water and Clean Water Act Technical Assistance, and the DOL Apprenticeship Grant Program.

In addition to these proven, effective federal investments, NRWA is tremendously grateful and pleased Congress created a new National Program for Water and Wastewater Operators under Title 1 of Division H, intended to address the nationwide shortage of water and wastewater operators, particularly in rural areas. NRWA is excited to capitalize on this new opportunity and intends to leverage our Registered Apprenticeship Programs to maximize the benefits of this new national workforce development initiative for the water and wastewater industry.
