BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota State Water Commission (SWC) approved more than $5.9 million in funding for projects including dam support, water supply, and other water infrastructure projects across the state during its August 18 meeting in Bismarck. The approved projects include $1.18 million for the Pembina City Dam Modification project as well as over $1.16 million for the Northeast Rural Water District User and Facility Expansion.

“A resilient water system is built one investment at a time,” Director Haase said. “The projects approved today reflect the diverse needs of communities across the state. By investing strategically today, we can reduce future risk and ensure our water infrastructure continues to serve North Dakotans for generations to come.”

Gov. Kelly Armstrong and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring voted with the State Water Commission to activate a water supply assistance program for livestock producers as the governor declared a drought disaster for extremely dry conditions across North Dakota. The State Water Commission consists of eight members appointed by the Governor, the Agriculture Commissioner, and the Governor as chairperson. Cost-share funding approved by the SWC is primarily supported by North Dakota’s Resources Trust Fund, which receives 20.5 percent of the state’s oil extraction tax revenue.
