BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota State Water Commission (SWC) approved more than $10.25 million in funding for projects including flood control, water supply, and other water infrastructure projects across the state during its June 10 meeting in Bismarck. The approved projects include $1.9 million for the Bottineau County Water Supply Expansion project as well as over $1.6 million each for the City of Bowman New Water Storage Reservoir project and Cass Rural Water District’s System Improvements project.
“Reliable water infrastructure is essential to the health, safety, and prosperity of North Dakota communities,” Director Haase said. “The projects approved today will help strengthen water supplies and support long-term community growth across the state. As North Dakota’s water needs continue to evolve, investments like these remain critical to ensuring our infrastructure is prepared to meet future demands.”
Approved projects include:
- Dickinson – Manns Dam Final Design: $252,245
- DWR USGS – Cooperative Monitoring: $538,390
- Grand Forks Water Resource District (WRD) – Grand Forks County Dams Emergency Action Plan Updates: $204,000
- Western Area Water Supply – Private Cellular Telemetry SCADA: $74,250
- Western Area Water Supply – Water Treatment Plant Phase II: $386,250
- Missouri West – Flasher Elevated Tank: $89,888
- Enderlin – Water Supply Study: $99,000
- Mohall – Water Infrastructure Replacements: $90,000
- Maple River WRD – Davenport Flood Project: $1,665,282
- All Seasons Water Users – Bottineau County Expansion: $1,901,250
- Cass Rural Water – 2026 System Improvements: $1,684,177
- Garrison Rural Water – Pump Station $5 (6) and Reservoir: $1,002,254
- City of Williston – 2026 Williston Square Improvements: $602,102
- City of Bowman – New Water Storage Reservoir: $1,656,600
Projects receiving significant funding include the Bottineau County Water Supply Expansion and the City of Bowman New Water Storage Reservoir.
- The Bottineau County Expansion project will have two phases. Phase 1 of the project will construct a pump station with a 750,000-gallon reservoir, a pump station with a 100,000-gallon reservoir, and approximately 11.5 miles of new transmission line. Phase 2 of the project includes construction of 12 miles of distribution lines for the west side of Lake Metigoshe and the addition of approximately 250 new users.
- The City of Bowman New Water Storage Reservoir project will remove and replace Bowman’s existing 300,000-gallon and 500,000-gallon aging underground storage reservoirs with one new 600,000-gallon underground storage reservoir.
The State Water Commission consists of eight members appointed by the Governor, the Agriculture Commissioner, and the Governor as chairperson. Cost-share funding approved by the SWC is primarily supported by North Dakota’s Resources Trust Fund, which receives 20.5 percent of the state’s oil extraction tax revenue.
